Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Indigenous Artworks, Culture and Tourism, Dr Christian Madubuko says Owerre-Ezukala Waterfalls and Cave will generate revenue to the state when fully developed.
“The Owerre-Ezukala Cave and Waterfall possess great potential to generate wealth for Anambra State because it has aesthetic beauty, potential and uniqueness that will need to be tapped.’’
Dr Madubuko said during his tour of the facilities. “I never knew something like this exists here. I have been hearing about it and today I am opportune to see it.
“As a Christian, I was told in the Bible that Jesus Christ is the water of life and with this here; I can say the water of life is in Anambra State.
“With the support of the Governor and Ndi Anambra in The Diaspora, we will develop it,’’ Madubuko vowed.
According to him Anambra also has other wonderful tourist sites including the Ogbunike Cave and Igbo-Ukwu Museum.
Transition Committee (TC) Chairman, Orumba South LGA, Mr Raymond Onyegu said that their forefathers lived in the cave in ancient times.
“Everyone, who was born here, came and met this cave and story has it that our forefathers lived here.
“This represents the biggest tourism attraction in this part of the World because we are not aware of any cave that is bigger than this in the whole of Nigeria.
“It takes two hours to move inside it; the cave leads to Oji River in Enugu State.
“Kaolin has been found here and samples of it have been taken to laboratory; other mineral resources can also be found here if extensively explored.
“Again, this place can serve as good location to shoot movies,’’ he added.
He praised the Government for making the cave accessible by constructing staircases down into the cave.
“People used to fall while descending the cave but now it no longer happens.
“Even, Gov. Willie Obiano has twice visited here and this brought this the consciousness of many about the existence of the cave and waterfalls.
“Every last Saturday of May, we celebrate Tourism Day here and people from all over the world come to visit,’’ the chairman said.
The commissioner and his entourage were welcomed at the Palace of Traditional Ruler of Owerre-Ezukala, Igwe Thomas Ogbonnaya.
He hailed the Government for efforts at making the road into the cave accessible by building stairs down into the facility.
The tour took the commissioner and his entourage round different sections of the cave. (MOI)
