Government to partner FRSC on Road decongestion

Anambra State Commissioner for Transport, Mr Afam Mbanefo, has emphasised the state government’s readiness to partner the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in tackling road traffic congestion in the state.We want to work with you to identify traffic hot spots in the state, attack them, making sure that during rush hours, that we are always there to manage traffic properly.’’

Mr Mbanefo said this on July 9 during working visit to the Anambra State Sector Commander FRSC, Corps Commander, Mr Andrew A Kumapayi at his Awka office.According to him, the ministry has the mandate to create safety on the roads, bring about ethics to the driving standards in the environment.The commissioner explained that the ministry had set up Traffic Command and Control Centre, where information would flow to ensure efficiency.

The driving schools must be co-managed. There must be coordination between the driving schools and what we do, in terms of licencing, to avoid individuals acquiring driving licence illegally in Anambra.These are the things we want to put a stop to,’’ Mr Mbanefo said.The Sector Commander, Mr Kumapayi, described Anambra State as the most road safety-conscious state in Nigeria.He assured of FRSC’s commitment in ensuring that road traffic crashes would be eliminated.Mr Kumapayi promised the command’s full support in all ministry’s programmes.Both parties agreed to further explore other operational areas and activities, to ensure sanity on the roads in Anambra.Presentation of the revised Nigeria Highway Code to the commissioner by the FRSC commander formed part of the visit.
