A man who police believe was the last person to see Paige Johnson alive before her mysterious disappearance in Clermont County, Kentucky, was arrested Tuesday in connection to her death — nearly a decade after her went missing.As reported by WXIX-TV, Jacob Bumpass was indicted by a grand jury on Tuesday for gross abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence. He fronted court Wednesday in , pleading not guilty. The 32-year-old man is accused of misleading authorities and telling an “untruthful story” about his 17-year-old friend’s whereabouts on the night of September 23, 2010.The prime suspect has never spoken publicly about the case, however police have long suspected that Bumpass was the last person to have contact with the Northern Kentucky teenager, whose remains were discovered in late March, across the Ohio border near Williamsburg Township and East Fork State Park.His arrest marks the first time anyone has been charged in Paige Johnson’s disappearance, four months after her death was finally confirmed. The man arrested in connection to the death and disappearance of Paige Johnson pleaded not guilty when he appeared in court on Wednesday.
As reported by the Cincinnati Enquirer, officials said the case is still under investigation because Paige Johnson’s cause and manner of death has yet to be determined given the condition of her remains, meaning no homicide charge has been filed.Kenton County Commonwealth Prosecutor Rob Sanders says more charges could be added however.
